In any case, here is a 1974 concert I found on line which will give you a taste of the band “live”. I seem to remember Chase playing a concert at Wausau West High School at some point although I wasnt there. Tragically this all came to an end when most of the band, including Bill, was killed in a plane crash in 1974. The only issued three albums, all of which made the Billboard charts when originally issued in the early 1970s. Unfortunately on April 9 1974, Bill Chase and three other members of the band, were killed in a plane crash while flying to a gig in Minnesota. Chase was a Jazz-Rock horn band masterminded by trumpet player extraordinaire Bill Chase. They returned in 1974 with a new, more jazz oriented LP ‘Pure Music”. The LP earned the band a Grammy nomination for best new artist (they lost to Carly Simon). Even with pampering, over the years my original CD was developing skipping problems and reaching the end of its’ life. Where the group's first two albums were standard if scintillating jazz-rock not all that different from Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago, Pure Music pointed the way to fusion, with its angular guitar, keyboard pyrotechnics and reliance on instrumental jams rather than vocal-oriented songs. Pure Music was the third and final album by jazz-rock fusion band Chase. It would have been interesting to see where Chase would have gone had it not been for the plane crash that killed the leader and half the band, because Pure Music represented a dramatic change in direction for the band.
